Boulder Opal is believed to have formed up to 40 million years ago.

You can recognize Australian Boulder Opal by the solid brown ironstone that it formed onto beneath the ground. Colourful opal forms in cracks and fissures in thin veins so it needs to be removed with some of the ironstone attached.
