Lapis Lazuli has been one of the most sought out crystals throughout history. In ancient times its beautiful blue colour was used to create dyes, or in the case of ancient Egypt, cosmetics. It has also long been used in jewellery.

Europeans ground it down to form an expensive pigment for 'ultramarine' paint, used by artists including Michelangelo and Leonardo Divinci.
