Often called Desert Jasper, Polychrome Jasper was discovered in Madagascar in 2008. Polychrome was accidentally discovered whilst looking for Ocean Jasper which is highly sought after since the first deposits were found.

Polychrome Jasper only forms in huge masses, and it is necessary to hand dig all this Jasper because of the challenging terrain and conditions.

It is named for the shades of browns, reds, and tans. The colours are caused by inclusions of Iron.
